International & Eco Work

European Day of Languages

Each year we start our international work with European Languages Week. The children enjoyed developing their Spanish language skills as well as learning more about Spanish culture. We finished off our learning with a celebration assembly where the children shared their work with the rest of the school.

Harvest around the World

Our Harvest Festival was held in school this year. The children enjoyed sharing their learning about harvest around the world with their friends and families. We also collected lots of donations for the food bank, to help others in need.

World Nursery Rhyme Week

Every year Nursery take part in World Nursery Rhyme week where they focus on 5 songs. Did you know learning and singing nursery rhymes has a big impact on a child's learning. This year we joined up with our partner school in Egypt, The Royal British International School. The children shared some of the nursery rhymes they have been learning and were able to see children from other countries sharing some of their favourite nursery rhymes. We also tried singing Incy Wincy Spider in Polish, it was very tricky but the children enjoyed joining in with some actions. Maybe you could have a try.

Celebrating Diwali

The children in Early Years have been learning about the Hindu celebration called Diwali. This is also known as the festival of lights. In class, we learnt about the story of Rama and Sita, explored rangoli and mehndi patterns and found out about what Hindu people do during this time. Mrs Ray also brought in a sari to show the children and modelled how it is worn. The children were mesmerised by the beautiful colours and patterns.

Chinese Week

The children have enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year in the lead up to the celebrations in Liverpool. During the week, the children explored different cultural and art activities, exploring techniques which are traditional in China. It was lovely to see all the children's hard work during our celebration assembly. Year 3 even learnt to say some words in Mandarin.

Happy Chinese New Year! We hope you got to enjoy the celebrations in China Town and see the dragon and lion dances up close.

Eco Warriors planting trees

Our Eco Warriors worked with Mrs Gall and Mr Dutton to plant some new tree saplings on our school grounds. We made sure that each sapling had plenty of space to grow, watered them and then buried a time capsule with our names in to tell pupils of the future who planted these trees. We can't wait to see them growing.

Eco Centre

Year 6 went to visit the Eco Centre where they see what happened to all of the waste that is recycled. They were amazed to see the amount of waste being recycled and finding out more about what can and cannot be recycled. They did not enjoy the smell though!

Community Cleanup

Some of our school and Eco Warriors took part in a litter pick around Netherton, focusing on the canal path and the Sefton estate. In just 45 minutes, they managed to fill over 8 bags of rubbish, showing how much of a difference a short effort can make. It was a great way to help clean up our local area and make it a better place for everyone

Year 3's Endangered Animals

As part of their PSHE work, the children in Year 3 had to choose a charity to support. They learnt WWF and were eager to support the conservation efforts of this charity to help endangered species. The decided to raise money so they could adopting an animal through a sponsored silence and arranging for the whole school to take part in Wear it Wild Day. They researched endangered animals and found about the causes for them being endangered. The children were so inspired by what they had learnt they wrote letters to David Attenborough and our partner school Montessori by the Sea, which is in the Cayman Islands. They shared what they knew about endangered species and suggested ways in which they could help preserve the future of these animals. During Wear it Wild Day, children throughout the school learnt some more about endangered animals and got to come dressed up with an animal theme. We saw some wonderful outfits!

Christian Aid Week

The children have been learning about climate change and how it is affecting crops in Guatemala due to drought. The children planted their own sunflower seeds and said prayers of hope for those living in areas affected by extreme weather.

Fieldwork Week

After learning about drought through Christian Aid week and the hot weather we were having, our fieldwork week focused on looking at weather in our school grounds and identifying evidence of extreme weather. This linked into our work about Guatemala by looking at their weather reports and finding out about El Nino and the impact that it is having.

Tree Celebration

Our Eco Warriors were eager to share information about the importance of trees and the tree celebration that we were having in our forest. All the children learnt about how trees help humans and animals, as well as how to protect trees. They also learnt about deforestation and the impact that this is having on others around the world. Each class had time in the forest during our tree celebration day; they decorated biscuits to enjoy and added sticks to our prayer space, thinking about deforestation.
