School Meals

Lunch at St Oswald's CE Primary School

With effect from 1st September 2014, all children in KS1 classes (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) are entitled to a free dinner, every day, so there is no need to bring a packed lunch to school.  We do not have the facilities for KS1 children to have their own packed lunch as all the lunchtime welfare staff work with pupils eating their hot dinners, modeling good manners and encouraging children to try new foods.

However, if your child is in KS1 and would normally be entitled to free school meals, we still require you to complete an application form as there are other funding grants available to the school base on these figures.  Accessing this money means that we can enhance your child's education by giving them even more opportunities during the school year.

Free School Meals

If you think your child is entitled to receive a free meal at lunchtimes, just complete the application form below and forward it to Sefton Council.  Alternatively, you can hand the form in at the school office.

Menus

At St. Oswald's, we provide seasonal menus which conform to Government legislation and which are made with high quality branded food ingredients. All our delicious meals are freshly prepared with locally sourced produce, wherever possible. Our meat is sourced from farms which satisfy UK welfare standards and our fish products meet the Marine Stewardship Council standards. All the eggs used in our school kitchens are free range.

Our School meals are provided by Sefton Catering Services, a dedicated service for primary and secondary schools across Sefton. Our shared vision is that every pupil has access to a nutritionally balanced meal throughout the school day.  Meals are prepared on site by our school cook.

The menu checked logo also gives school, parents and pupils the confidence that the food served provides the energy and nutrients that children need to do well at school. Menus have been developed not only to meet ever changing standards but also to give pupils a choice of their favourite meals, including the vegetarian option, which does appeal to all pupils.

Following the advice of nutritionists, we will continue to include in our menu provision, a choice of jacket potatoes on 2 days per week and sandwiches on 3 days per week. We offer a choice of 3 drinks each day - water, milk and fresh fruit juice.  Menus run on a three week rolling programme. The cost per day for meals is £2.50 from January 2024.  Money should be paid in advance on the Monday for the week ahead. (No arrears can be allowed to build up.)

Your child will be required to follow a weekly meal pattern and the school office will require 1 week notice to amend the pattern. If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, please still complete a meal pattern but no charge will be made for meals taken.

Packed Lunches

Packed lunch advice can be found by clicking on the following link Packed Lunch Advice

If you would like your KS2 child to change to packed lunch or from packed lunch to dinners, please contact the school office, the school office will require 1 week notice to amend the pattern.
