Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club

We want every child at St. Oswald’s CE Primary School to start the day with everything they need in order to learn effectively; a fundamental element of this is a healthy, filling breakfast.

The chance to socialise with peers & adults, to keep fit & play a variety of traditional board games and construction equipment also play an important role in readying children for the day ahead.

Children can arrive at Breakfast Club at the school hall any time from 07.45am. They will be offered a selection of healthy breakfast options: a variety of cereals, toast,  bagels, beans, eggs, fresh fruit, yoghurt, milk and fruit juice.  A great way to start the day!

Breakfast Club is £3.50 per pupil per day and the cost for when there are more children in the family (siblings), the charge per family is £6.00. Payment should be made in a named envelope on the day as your child arrives for breakfast club, or on the first day of the week in advance.

For more information please contact the school office.

Breakfast Bagels

St Oswald’s joined the National School Breakfast Programme  21.01.19.

All pupils are offered a healthy breakfast bagel or toast at the beginning of every other school day.  All classes receive milk every day.

St Oswald’s CE Primary School is proud to be one of the first schools in England to have signed up to the new National School Breakfast Programme (NSBP), funded by the Department for Education and delivered by the charities Family Action and Magic Breakfast.

A healthy breakfast can provide children with the energy and nutrients they need to thrive; increasing alertness, improving behaviour and giving them the motivation to learn. Research, funded by the Education Endowment Foundation and carried out by the Institute for Fiscal Studies, found that Y2 pupils in schools providing a free, nutritious breakfast boosted their reading, writing and maths by an average of 2 months’ progress per year, compared to pupils in schools with no such breakfast provision. Our aim is to offer playground bagels to all the children, the younger children will have them delivered to their classroom.
