International Schools Award

St Oswald's has a long history of International work and has been accredited with the International Schools Award since 2004.  This year we are working on gaining reaccreditation for the 5th time.

Over the years we have had links with schools around the world and we are luckily enough to be starting some links with new partners.  We will be working with the British International School Abu Dhabi (UAE) where one of our former teachers now works; The International School of Samui (Thailand); and Nasa Radost (Serbia).  Over the year we will be completing different activities together and will record our International journey here.

A little more information about our partner schools.

British International School Abu Dhabi (BISAD)

Abu Dhabi is one of seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  BISAD reflects the international nature of this emirate as the majority of the population originate from other parts of the world.  UAE is situated in the western part of Asia and is often referred to as 'the middle east'.

British International School of Abu Dhabi has over 1700 pupils aged between 3 - 18.  We will be developing our activities with the year 6 class and look forward to getting to know each other further.

Nasa Radost

Serbia is situated in eastern Europe.  The official language of Serbia is Serbian although there are a wide range of languages spoken such as Romanian, Albanian and Bulgarian.

Nasa Radost is a kindergarten in Subotica.  Children aged 5 or 6 attend kindergarten before starting primary school.  Staff will be working alongside Nursery to share how we use the outdoors to develop childrens learning.

Mail from our partner school

Our partner school sent us some online games to complete and we sent some back in return.  The children really enjoyed exploring these.

At Christmas we shared the traditional things that we do in England to prepare and celebrate Christmas.  We learnt about the boots that children make and leave out for St Nicholas (Father Christmas) to put presents in. It is lovely learning about different traditions from other countries.

We shared the compost that we made in Nursery during Harvest festival and this inspired our partners to make their own compost also.

Chinese Week - As part of Chinese week the children took part in a community project with Pagoda Arts.  We used hundreds of recycled lucky red envelopes (which had been brought from Hong Kong) to turn into oragami pieces such as pigs, fish and lanterns.  These were then displayed as part of the Pigsy sculpture in Liverpool Museum during Chinese New Year.
